A properly engineered shock tower strut reduces or eliminates the chassis and shock tower flex that occurs during hard cornering and driving over uneven, bumpy surfaces. When used in combination with a Front Strut Brace, the Firewall Strut Braces add considerable rigidity to the front of the car, improve steering response by maintaining proper suspension geometry while cornering and maintain structural integrity of your prized Z4 over the years resulting in an outstanding and remarkable improvement. The factory installed strut to firewall braces are poorly designed. The ends are flattened to an 1/8 of an inch which provides almost no support or rigidity. If a chain is only as strong as its' weakest link, an 1/8 of an inch is a very weak link! In addition, the ends of the OEM braces tend to crack from metal fatigue, and dealers are just welding them back together. Our replacement set of two Firewall Strut Braces greatly improve the performance and appearance over the factory version and are designed to appear as original manufacturers equipment, not like an added aftermarket accessory, built to higher quality standards with superior materials and offered at a much lower price than the competitive products, setting a new standard in design and value. 

This set is CNC-machined from solid aircraft grade 6061 alloy and heat treated to T-6 specifications for added strength, breaking new ground in the alloy strut field by utilizing an exclusive "Direct Block Pivotless Design." Extremely robust and immovable, this design features an extended cross bar that attaches directly to the tower ring block without the need for additional fittings. There are no pivot points, hollow tubes or stamped components in the construction. In addition, there is a massive, proven, two inch wide and one half inch thick, machined alloy cross bar with weight saving, decorative, drilled holes. Fits all models of Z4 and ///M series Roadsters.

The available stock colors are Black and Silver powder coating. Chrome plating is available for an additional $375 total for all 3 braces and will take an additional 3-4 weeks due to the three steps involved in the restoration grade process. Z4 Rear Black BMW Z4 and ///M Rear Strut Braces (Set of 2) - NLA

Unfortunately, the OEM factory rear bracing bars attached to the differential and the rocker panels are terribly inadequate. They are made of a thin, soft, hollow, aluminum material which offers very little resistance to the forces applied to it. There is so much flex in the soft, OEM brace, BMW found it necessary to include an extra brace ON the brace so it wouldn't bend as much (shown on the Additional Images page). Many Z4 owners recognize the need to replace the OEM braces with something that is substantial and considerably more effective. 

The CNC-machined Rear Strut Brace material is hot rolled carbon steel angle iron with legs that are 1½ inches wide and ¼ inch thick. The web, at the point of the “V” which takes the stress, is a full 3/8 inch thick. The end materials are cold rolled 1031 steel of 3/8 inch thickness that begin as billet material. The brace is installed in the “V” configuration with the bottom of the “V” toward the ground and the upper, open side against the underbody of the chassis. There is no “mid bracing” required on our product and when you hold it in your hands you will understand why there is absolutely no flex or movement possible. Installation is a simple bolt on replacement procedure. You will have to elevate the rear of the car to install it but the actual replacement with simple tools is no more than a 30 minute task. Simply remove the OEM brace and use the same mounting points and hardware along with provided spacers, to install the Z4 rear brace.  The installed braces add only nine pounds over the OEM braces and traction at the rear of the vehicle benefits from that extra weight. The set of two braces are designed so road debris or moisture cannot get trapped in the "V".The rear strut brace will not cause the rear of the car to break loose any sooner than a stock setup. It is NOT a suspension component, it simply reinforces and adds rigidity to the rear section of the chassis. Some people confuse it with a stiffer rear anti-sway bar, which, under some circumstances, may make the rear end a bit loose. This product is designed to appear as original manufacturers equipment, not like an added aftermarket accessory, built to higher quality standards with superior materials and offered at a much lower price than the competitive products, setting a new standard in design and value. Since the rear strut brace can't be seen unless you intentionally look under the car, they all come powder coated in a Black textured finish. The rear strut braces tighten up the rear end and force the car to follow the front when you point it into a turn. One driver said it felt like the car had rear wheel steering. When driving over bumps, the car reacts as one piece rather than reacting in "sections" with a bunch of wiggling. The additional rigidity is quite noticeable and evokes more confidence and certainty in tight turns when "G" forces are rapidly switching sides. Fits all models of Z4 and ///M series Roadsters.

NOTE: IMPORTANT INFORMATION about the Rear Strut Brace's ground clearance below!
Please be advised that the addition of a rear strut brace may reduce your ground clearance. Since various models have some differences and there are a lot of aftermarket suspensions and wheel/tire options out there, we can't be more specific than this. The prototype has been road tested on a 2007 ///M Roadster suspension without an incidents. If ground clearance is an issue with any potential customer, we suggest you do not purchase the rear strut brace. If you do install one, we suggest that you measure the distance from the bottom of the strut to the ground and keep the measurement nearby. Avoid straddling any road objects that exceed this dimension since striking a solid object may cause damage to the vehicle. Although not tested for crash worthiness, it should be able to withstand a fairly solid hit. The pictures of the installed strut show its orientation and the fact that it could be vulnerable to large objects passing beneath the vehicle. It’s location and strength may prevent damage to the differential from straddled objects.

 A HANDY TOOL FOR CHANGING WHEELS

Since BMWs have lug BOLTS instead of lug NUTS, there is nothing to hold the wheel against the hub when the bolts are removed and it simply drops. This is not very user-friendly and you have to be ready to hold the wheel and support the weight when the bolts are removed. Sometimes the wheel can drop and scratch itself against the exposed wheel hub.  The set of two BMW Universal Wheel Pins solves this problem.

Simply remove two of the lug bolts and screw in a Wheel Pin in each location, then remove the remaining lug bolts. The Wheel Pins support the weight of the wheel so you can simply pull the wheel toward you and it will slide off the end of the Wheel Pins. Reverse the procedure for mounting the wheel by sliding two of the wheel holes onto the Wheel Pins and push the wheel against the hub. Insert two lug bolts to hold the wheel in place and then remove the Wheel Pins and install the remaining lug bolts. The photo shows a hole drilled in the end of the tool but that is unnecessary and has been eliminated. Fits all BMWs.
